2. An electric device that beats, mixes or whips ingredients. A stand or stationary mixer is a counter-top device that uses fixed sized bowls and a beater that moves within the bowl. A handheld or portable mixer is a smaller device that spins one or more beaters to mix ingredients in whatever container it is lowered into.
